I had an idea for new stat called “Houdinis.” This comes actually from a series of Royals games back in 2005 in which the Royals escaped from a bases-loaded, no-out jam without a run scoring three times in four games. I thought “We ought to count that. . .what do you call it?” It’s obvious. . . .
A “Houdini” is credited to any pitcher who: a) finds himself in a bases-loaded, no-out jam, b) gets out of it without a run scoring, and c) is not charged with a run in that inning.
In other words, if you give up a run, THEN load the bases and get out of it, that doesn’t count. If one pitcher gets one out and the other pitcher gets two out, that doesn’t count. It only counts as a Houdini if one pitcher gets all three outs, no run scores, and no run is charged to the pitcher who gets the three outs.
